Pre-TAC!
DAY 1: Local Landing Day
The passports are stamped, the boots have hit the ground, and the journals are ready. But before Questers step out into the field, there is Pre-TAC.
Now executed on arrival as Local Landing Day-1, Pre-TAC is our high-octane cultural incubation phase: an intensive crash course in Pre-Field Traditions, Appreciation, and Culture. It serves as the psychological and intellectual staging ground where Questers decompress, adjust, and master the foundational tools of the civilization.
Pre-TAC is where we learn the history, traditions, values, and language nuances of our hosts, alongside the precise protocols required to greet traditional rulers with absolute respect. It is not a casual orientation, briefing, or standard prep; it is how we ensure every participant steps outside the base camp as a critical thinker: culturally literate, linguistically aware, and ready to analyze, embrace, trust and connect.
So, whether we are in Abeokuta for Yoruba historic heritage, Kyoto for imperial Shinto traditions, Cusco for Incan architectural civilization, Oaxaca for Mesoamerican heritage, or Rome for classical antiquity, the expedition begins right here with an immersive deep dive into context.
During Local Landing Day, we unpack the core theme of the expedition to establish what we are analyzing and who the communities, histories, and heritages we are about to encounter are.
We explore the geography, the culture, and the systemic questions behind the questions. We build a rigorous working knowledge of the civilization: its history, culture, peoples, traditions, values, and challenges, establishing the vital foundation for global understanding.
Then comes the purposeful part of Local Landing Day: the TAC Quiz. It is our engaging way of testing just how ready we really are to understand our neighbors: their culture and their story.
Pre-TAC is one of the most powerful gears in the CheckWorld expedition engine. It is an indispensable part of the CheckWorld model because not only does it prepare us to understand the nuances of diverse civilizations, it helps us arrive well-informed about the place, people, and culture to earn the CheckWorld badge of honor, fully equipping us for the ultimate eradication of prejudice and tribalism!
